Portraying Archives: 2002-2018

2024, multi-channel video installation, variable size, commissioned by Seoul Museum of Arts

This project explores the relationships and possibilities between The Third Tongue and five other works featured in the special themed exhibition Fantasia of the Archives at the Art Archives SeMA. It investigates counter-narratives by creating new meanings through innovative connections and compositions of video footage collected without specific intent since the early 2000s.

Portraying Archives seeks to reveal the potential of fragmented video clips that remained hidden on hard drives, never forming a complete work. By applying various formal techniques to these once-dismissed videos—considered meaningless and passive—and giving them seemingly unrelated titles, this approach encourages viewers to form new connections in their subconscious, fostering thinking that transcends conventional boundaries.
